In August 1988, Steven E. Nelson and Bruce P. During the first few years of existence, the two-man firm of Nelson & Fromer operated with minimal support staff as a true general practice handling all types of legal matters. However, over time Bruce Fromer focused his talents on protecting the rights of the injured by taking on insurance companies and large corporations that refuse to honor their responsibilities to adequately compensate the injured for their damages. He quickly established himself amongst the elite of the personal injury trial attorneys in central New Jersey. Through his thirty years of trial experience, Bruce has earned the reputation as a knowledgeable, prepared, aggressive advocate who always views his client as his top priority. During his career, Bruce has negotiated substantial monetary settlements for many clients. His trial skills have yielded large monetary jury awards in a variety of civil (tort) cases arising from medical malpractice, slip and fall accidents, car accidents, dog bite injuries, defective product (product liability) injuries and injuries sustained in the workplace (worker’s compensation claims). His attention to detail, aggressive lawyering, extensive knowledge of personal injury law and civil procedure together with his years of experience have resulted in his clients receiving maximum compensation for whatever damage or loss they may have suffered by the negligence or tortious acts of others.
During the same time, Steven Nelson found his niche as a criminal defense attorney protecting the fundamental Constitutional rights of individuals charged with crimes, disorderly persons offenses and motor vehicle violations. Steve is one of a limited number of attorneys in New Jersey whose practice is devoted exclusively to criminal defense. As a criminal attorney with almost three decades of trial experience he has successfully represented individuals charged with murder/manslaughter, sex offenses, drug offenses, theft and burglary, and public employment official misconduct. The personal interest he takes in every client is particularly evident when representing a minor charged with a juvenile offense or with someone charged with an act of domestic violence in an often emotionally-charged incident. Whether charged with a motor vehicle violation or with a serious indictable crime, Steve Nelson understand the stress and anxiety one can experience by simply being involved in the criminal justice system. It took a little less than ten years for Bruce and Steve to find a young associate who met the high standards they set for any attorney who was to hold him/herself in the community as affiliated with Nelson & Fromer. In 1996, the partners interviewed Charles “Chuck” Crocco who, at the time, was a judicial law clerk for three of the most respected Judges ever to serve in Monmouth County. It was immediately obvious that Chuck fit the mold. His enthusiasm for law was obvious. His personality was infectious. His work ethic was extraordinary. Chuck embraced the original mission of Nelson & Fromer and has proven himself as a truly gifted trial attorney in every respect. Chuck joined Bruce in the civil division of the firm to establish one of the most successful personal injury and workers compensation trial teams in central Jersey, rivaling many of the larger firms. Since joining the firm, Chuck Crocco has experienced success most attorneys never realize during an entire career. He is clearly recognized as one of the preeminent trial attorneys in Monmouth County and, indeed, the entire state. Chuck is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Trial Attorney. In 2007 he became partner with the firm, which became known as Nelson, Fromer & Crocco.
In 2001, the firm again tapped the judicial law clerk pool and brought Matthew Jordan on to complement Steve Nelson's criminal and municipal court practice. A decorated athlete while growing up in Ocean County, Matt exudes the same competitive spirit and tenacious approach on behalf of this clients in the courtroom as he did on the basketball court. In a relatively short time he has become a familiar face as a rising star in the criminal, juvenile and municipal courts. He has lectured on handling traffic offenses, disorderly persons offenses and ordinance violations in municipal courts. He is also the current Co-Chair of the Monmouth County Municipal Court Committee. His knowledge of the constantly changing, very severe drunk driving laws in New Jersey has earned him recognition amongst the elite DWI/DUI attorneys in the area. On July 1, 2010, the firm acknowledged Matt’s achievements by adding his name to the letterhead.
